How many supporting documents should be included with the nomination? The total package should be no more than 10 pages for veteran teachers or 5 pages for first-year teachers.

What should not be included in the nominating package? Do not send videotapes, loose-leaf binders, artwork or letters of support from current students.

When are nominations due? Nominations are due the second Friday in January.

Where should I send nominations? Mail the nomination package and one copy to Marian Greenblatt Education Fund, c/o Dr. Marshal Greenblatt, 11308 Tara Road, Potomac, MD 20854-1349.

What is the award? Three veteran teachers receive $1,000 each. The first-year teacher receives $500. In addition, each winning teacher receives a plaque, as does the school. One of the veteran teachers is chosen Montgomery County Teacher of the Year and receives use of a new car for a year and other awards.

When and where are the presentations made? The awards are announced in February and presented in the spring at the winners' schools. All winners are honored at the Montgomery County Business Roundtable For Education's Champions for Children Gala dinner.

Who decides the winners? A committee of educators and Greenblatt family members chooses from teachers nominated.

Who is eligible? Only full-time Montgomery County classroom teachers are eligible. Veteran teachers must have been teaching in the County for five years. First-year teachers who have taught as a long-term substitute for more than one month are not eligible.

What about someone who was nominated previously but was not chosen? We welcome such nominations and sometimes pick such people in the second year that they have been nominated.

What if I have additional questions? Contact Dr. Marshal Greenblatt by phone at (301) 983-3255, or by e-mail to info@greenblatteducationfund.org

What about nominating a retiring teacher? Are they eligible? We prefer teachers who will serve as mentors for years to come.
