Nomination Info
What should the nomination package include?
- See the attached Checklists for information on the nomination package. Checklist [PDF]
- Note that there are two Checklists, one for Experienced Teachers and one for Rising-Star Teachers.
What is new this year?
The award for a First-Year teacher, presented for more than 10 years, is replaced by an award for a Rising Star, a teacher who has had less than two years teaching experience. This gives the principal more time to evaluate a new teacher.
When and where are the awards presented?
The awards are announced in February and presented in the spring at the winners’ schools.
All winners are honored at the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education’s
Champions for Children Ceremony in the spring, when the County Teacher of the Year will
be announced.
Who decides the Greenblatt Fund winners?
A committee of educators and Greenblatt family members chooses from the teachers nominated.
Who is eligible?
Only full-time Montgomery County classroom teachers are eligible. Veteran teachers must have
been teaching in the County for five years. Rising-Star teachers who have taught as a long-term substitute are eligible, as long as the total time teaching is two years or less, including full-time and substitute service.
What about someone who was nominated previously but was not chosen?
We welcome such nominations and sometimes pick such people in the second year that they
have been nominated.
